Easttown Township adopted an Open Records Policy to assure compliance with Act 3 of 2008, the Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law (RTKL), as amended, 65 P.S. §67.101 et seq., to provide access to public records of the Township.
BEFORE FILING YOUR REQUEST
- Make sure you are seeking records and not just asking questions. The law governs the release of records, not answering questions. (e.g. Instead of "Why didn't my street get plowed until a day after the latest snow storm?" a better RTK request would be, "I'm seeking records regarding the snowplowing schedule in this municipality.")
- Check this website to see if the records you seek are already available. (TIP: Use the search bar.)
How do I request a Township Record?
- Complete the standard Right-to-Know Request Form (updated as of October 2, 2024).
- Make sure your request for records is specific and concise. Identify the records you want as specifically as you can, so that we can quickly locate them and determine whether they are public record.
- Always retain a copy for your file. A copy of your RTK request will be necessary if you're denied access to any records and decide to file an appeal to the Office of Open Records (OOR). If you don't have a copy of the request, the OOR has no choice but to dismiss the appeal as insufficient.
- Submit your RTK request to the Open Records Officer.
Review and Duplication of Township Records
- Township records may be viewed by appointment only.
- Due to restrictions imposed by the Federal Protection Copyright Act, the Township will not reproduce any copyrighted material, including (but not limited to) building, site or subdivision and land development plans, sealed architectural and/or engineered plans.
- Township is not required to create a record which does not currently exist, or to compile information into a new or different format. Records shall be produced and/or copied in the format in which they are requested if they are maintained in that format, otherwise records will be produced in the format in which they exist (65 P.S. §67.705).
