The Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks (PhilaLandmarks) inspires people to engage with history by preserving our unique historic sites and by providing related educational, historical and cultural programming.  We were founded in 1931 to save the Powel House (1765) from imminent demolition.  As short-term advocacy evolved into long-term stewardship, PhilaLandmarks acquired two more sites in Philadelphia.  In 1940, Grumblethorpe House & Garden (1744) joined the PhilaLandmarks roster and in 1966, the Hill-Physick House (1786) was acquired.  In 1980 PhilaLandmarks entered into a management agreement with Easttown Township to preserve Historic Waynesborough in Paoli, PA.

For over 90 years, PhilaLandmarks has preserved, maintained and interpreted our four historical properties for education and enjoyment of the public.  Each of PhilaLandmarks' four 18th century houses represents a different architectural style and portrays its own historical theme.  As in 1931, PhilaLandmarks and its supporters and volunteers maintain a strong commitment to historic preservation and the community.
