[ARCHIVED] Pollinator Pathways come to Easttown

Pollinator Pathway

The EAC is in the process of planning and installing 3 pollinator gardens along Rt30.   These will become the first phase of a pollinator pathway we hope will extend across Chester County and along Rt 30 to Philadelphia.  A Pollinator Pathway is a system of connected gardens that provide food and cover for pollinators including bees, butterflies, beetles and other pollinators.

All pollinators are on decline due to insecticide use, habitat loss, invasive plants and an increase in impervious surfaces (buildings, roads, driveways, parking lots and turf grass lawns).

The three sites will be planted with native plants that produce nectar and pollen from early spring through fall.  They will also provide overwintering sites. The chosen sites are at 80 W. Lancaster Ave, Devon, 638 Lancaster Ave, Berwyn, and 1000 Lancaster Ave, Berwyn.

This summer, we plan to count the number of pollinators at each site.  We will plant in the fall then count again next summer.   We hope to see a large increase in the number of pollinators.  Use Signup Genius to be part of this process. Photos courtesy of Friends of Warwick Park.
