[ARCHIVED] Chester County Declares Countywide Open Burn Ban

No Burning

On October 25, 2024, the Chester County Commissioners declared a ban on open burning for all residents and businesses in Chester County, which will take effect at 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 27, 2024.  The temporary 30-day ban is based on current and forecasted weather conditions, as well as the recent increase in brush fires across the County.  Wildfire potential is currently very high throughout Chester County due to the combination fo drought, dry fuels, winds, and fluctuating temperatures.

The open burn ban includes open burning of any conbustible material outdoors in either a burn barrel (screened or unscreened), fire ring, fire pit, or on teh ground.  This includes the burning of garbage, leaves, grass, twigs, litter, paper, and vegetation from land which has been cleared.

All open burning, as defined in Resolution No. BOC-52-24, is banned until Monday, November 25, 2024.

The County of Chester, through the Department of Emergency Services, is working to ensure the widespread publication and distribution fo this burn ban.  The Department of Emergency Services requests that local emergency response agencies and municipalities share this information through their websites and social media platforms.

Any questions regarding the ban can be directed to Justin McClure, Deputy Director for Fire Services at 610-344-5070 or jmcclure@chesco.org.
